It’s never too early to start thinking about a festive treat for the whole family! And London plays host to some of the best Christmas shows in the UK including shows that feature your children’s favourite characters from books, film and TV.  If you haven’t already, why don’t you start your own tradition now by seeing a show with your family and enjoying some Christmas magic in London?

Last year, Christmas 2025 was another great year for Yuletide shows. And we’re sure 2026 will be even better!

Shows for Preschool and Primary School Kids in London this Christmas

Your child will love seeing their favourite characters from books and TV brought to life this Christmas from Peppa Pig’s Big Family Show, to Julia Donaldson’s much loved Stick Man and Room on the Broom Live. Shows that we’re looking forward to seeing include The Smartest Giant in Town, or Raymond Briggs’ classic The Snowman, all in the West End.

Off in the East End you can find The Little Match Girl, tender, funny and deeply moving. In south-west London Wind in the Willows plays in Kingston, while Ellie & Starlight’s Christmas Adventure is on stage in Richmond.

If you’re in the north west of England then Blackpool is hosting Jack & the Beanstalk.

Kids a Tad Older?

You can join Clara on her adventures in the Nutcracker ballet at the London Coliseum. Or step into magical ‘Wonderland’ as Cirque Alice reimagines Lewis Carroll’s classic at the Royal Festival Hall.

Even further south, Polka Theatre is playing host to Peter Pan.

Shows For Older Kids in London this Christmas

First, a Christmas classic with a twist. Matthew Bourne’s spectacular Cinderella transports the fairytale to wartime London, where a chance encounter becomes a moving love story amid the Blitz, set to Prokofiev’s magnificent score.

And if you’re after something a little more traditionally festive, you could immerse yourself in seasonal classics…

Indulge in a big-hearted, smash hit production of Charles Dickens’ immortal A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic of which The Times wrote: ‘Not even Scrooge himself could dislike this’.

Laugh along as a Christmas Carol Goes Wrong at the hands of an amateur drama society.

Join Miss Bennet for Christmas at Pemberley — now conveniently located in Finsbury Park — or go down the road to the King’s Head, where Dick Whittington and His Cat discover that while the streets of Islington may not be paved with gold, they are certainly full of panto dames.

Of course, a festive theatre trip doesn’t have to stick strictly to tinsel and snow.
